Player Profiles #31 – Sam Clulow
Years played for ACC: This season, if I was able to reach down to put the boots on (questionable!), it would have been my 20th season at ACC.
Playing role: All Rounder (Literally), also captained Saturday and Sunday teams and coached the juniors on a Friday night.
Batting style: A tad leg side Lizzy, I think there have been precisely 2 occasions where I have actually played the cover drive, both where in error!
Bowling style: This has changed over the years, it used to be military medium away swing, but now its offensively slow off spin.
Highest score: 168 v’s Ellerslie in division A.
Best bowling figures: 8 for 25, Div A vs Long Eaton in 2003.
Amateur cricketing hero(es): I’ve played for a number of clubs over the years and I’ve been very lucky to have had so many wonderful people influence me as a cricketer and as a person from internationals to Mike Aplin, but without doubt it is the club & the people of ACC that are the true cricketing heroes. #squirrels
Favourite cricketer: Jacques Kallis (All Rounder), Brett Lee (Bowler) & Sachin Tendulkar (Batting)
Favourite ACC moment: Every Saturday for the last 20 years! There has been some memorable league & Popkess Cup wins, the first beer festival, the tours and the revival of the club six-aside day to name but a few that will last with me forever, but ultimately, I can’t look past my first ton at The Strand.
Favourite movie: The Matrix
Favourite meal: Chinese (But any food really, I’ve never missed a meal in my life)
Biggest passion/hobby outside of cricket: Playing Golf, watching Rugby.
What does ACC mean to you: To say that it has meant everything to me doesn’t do it justice. I came to Nottingham for work, but I stayed in Nottingham for 20 years because the club. I’ve made many friends for life who have been there for me through the highs and lows. It has been an absolute privilege to be a part of the club & in a small way contributed to its development and success. Ultimately I hope that I have helped in a positive way to develop a few youngster over the years to become better cricketers and I am looking forward to the next 20, watching from the sidelines.
